If you listen really hard, you still might hear the sound of a buckboard creaking down a dusty road, or hear the sound of spurs worn on a cowboy boot as their rowels roll across a kitchen floor. Think of wide-open spaces: Humbolt County is High Desert where the cattle far outnumber the people. We have clean air and clear skies that seem to magnify every star. The only noise you may hear is a bawl of a cow, a flock of geese flying overhead, or the cries of a coyote letting you know he's still around. Ranch life is a one-on-one challenge with Mother Nature.
